The first month of the Development Academy season will be in the books following this upcoming weekend. Here are some intriguing matchups on the horizon:
In the East Conference, the Orlando City and Capital Area RailHawks Academy – CASL U-15/16 teams have a big matchup this Saturday as they jockey for position in the Southeast Division. Orlando City is off to a 3-0-0 start and CASL is close behind with a 3-0-1 record. All three CASL wins this season have been shutouts, but the defense will face its stiffest test of the season against an Orlando City team that has 14 goals this year. Orlando City leading scorer David Loera has tallied a goal in all three games this season and has four this season.
In the Central Conference, Crew Soccer Academy Wolves’ U-15/16s look to maintain their first-place start to the season. CSA Wolves hosts the Minnesota Thunder Academy on Saturday and Shattuck-Saint Mary’s on Sunday and heads into the weekend with a 3-0-0 record atop the Mid-America Division. Two of the three games were shutout victories, and most of the scoring has come from Daniel Wright who has four goals this season – three last Saturday against Sockers FC.
Also in the Central, there is one club in the Academy that has not played yet, but that all changes this weekend. The Frontier Division’s Lonestar SC Academy U-15/16 and U-17/18 teams travel to Plano, Texas, to face Andromeda FC.
Out West, Crossfire Premier is near the top of the Northwest Division in the U-15/16 and U-17/18 age groups and wraps up September with a Sunday matchup against Seattle Sounders FC. Crossfire’s U-15/16s are second in the division with a 2-1-0 record, trailing Vancouver Whitecaps FC (3-0-1). The Crossfire U-17/18 team is third with a 2-0-1 mark, behind the second-place San Jose Earthquakes (3-0-0) and frontrunner Vancouver (4-0-0).
