U.S. Men’s National Team forward Landon Donovan will wear the captain’s armband when the USA hosts Ecuador on Friday, Oct. 10, at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut. Donovan is making his 157th and final appearance with the U.S. MNT. He first debuted for the National Team at 18 years old, scoring a goal and an assist during the USA’s 2-0 victory against Mexico on Oct. 25, 2000.
This will be the 19th time that Donovan will wear the captain’s armband. The USA is currently 11-3-4 when Donovan is the captain. He captained the U.S. earlier this year during the team’s 2-0 win against the Korea Republic on Feb. 1 at StubHub Center in Carson, California.
Donovan is the USA’s all-time leader in goals (57), assists (58), minutes played (12,813), FIFA World Cup appearances (12) and World Cup goals (5), and he is second in all-time appearances behind only Cobi Jones (164 games from 1992-2004).
