U-18 WNT Falls to Mexico U-20s 2-1 to Complete Two-Game Set

MEXICO CITY (Aug. 15, 2015) – The U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team fell to Mexico’s U-20s by a 2-1 score in the second of two matches in Mexico City. The teams previously tied 1-1 on Aug. 13.

Mexico took the lead in just the fourth minute as a ball was clipped over the top of the U.S. back line. Belen Cruz ran onto the ball as U.S. goalkeeper Gabrielle Kouzelos came charging off her line, but Cruz dribbled around her and scored into the empty net.

The U.S. tied the game just three minutes later as Emily Fox scored her second goal in as many games on this trip. The goal came after Savannah DeMelo dribbled around two defenders and squared a ball across the face of goal for Fox to finish first time into the lower corner of the goal.

With the team seemingly headed for another draw, Mexico bagged a crushing game-winner in the final minute of regulation and they did it in style. Nancy Antonio struck a tremendous blast from about 30 yards into the top corner on a shot that ended up being the last kick of the game.
