Fresh off his game-winner against Guatemala last Tuesday, Clint Dempsey camp up big once again Saturday night, heading home Andreas Ivanschitz’s 79th-minute corner kick to give Seattle Sounders FC a 1-0 win against the Montreal Impact. The goal was Dempsey’s first of the season to go along with Seattle’s much needed first victory of the 2016 MLS campaign.

Teammate Brad Evans returned from a shoulder injury to play the full 90 minutes, while forward Jordan Morris played the final 33 minutes in the 1-0 win.
Break Shea made his presence felt during Orlando City’s emphatic 4-1 home win against defending MLS Cup champions, the Portland Timbers. Already holding a 1-0 lead, Shea played a nice combination on the left with Kaka before hitting a left-footed screamer into the top right corner to double the advantage. Shea’s goal would stand up as the game-winner as Portland pulled one back late, while Darlington Nagbe went the full 90 minutes in midfield for the Timbers.

In a match commemorating the 20-year anniversary of Major League Soccer’s first game, Chris Wondolowski, David Bingham (San Jose) and Steve Birnbaum (D.C.) all went the full 90 in the 1-1 draw at Avaya Stadium in San Jose. Michael Bradley also went the distance, while Jozy Altidore played 30 minutes in an effort to build up his fitness, as Toronto played down a man for 68 minutes in their 1-0 defeat at Colorado.
In matches abroad, Fabian Johnson returned from injury to provide yet another assist, this time on Andre Hahn’s 60th minute goal in Borussia Monchengladbach’s 5-0 pounding of Hertha Berlin on Sunday afternoon. U.S. teammate John Brooks sat out the match with a knee contusion as ‘Gladbach (14-11-3; 45 pts.) pulled within three points of Hertha Berlin (14-8-6; 45 pts.) for third place with six matches remaining in the Bundesliga campaign.

Timmy Chandler started and went the full 90 minutes in his second consecutive match in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. Coming off his full MNT debut, Christian Pulisic returned to the matchday 18, playing the final 10 minutes in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-2 win against Werder Bremen on Sunday. In the Second Bundesliga, Andrew Wooten played the full match in Sandhausen’s 2-0 defeat to Kaiserslautern.
In England, Matt Miazga made his Chelsea debut, starting in central defense and going the full 90 minutes in the Blues 4-0 victory against Brad Guzan and Aston Villa on Saturday. Elsewhere, Geoff Cameron played the full game in Stoke City’s 2-2 draw with Swansea, which holds them stead at eighth in the Premier League table, still keeping hopes of a place in European competition alive for next season.
DeAndre Yedlin returned to Sunderland, playing 90 minutes at right back as the Black Cats drew 0-0 with West Bromwich Albion. In the Championship, Danny Williams played his third-consecutive 90-minute match since returning from injury as Reading took a 1-0 decision at league bottom-dwellers Bolton Wanderers.
In Mexico, left back Edgar Castillo and Monterrey extended their stay at the top of Liga MX, taking an important 2-1 win against goalkeeper William Yarbrough and Club Leon on Saturday night. Omar Gonzalez and Pachuca kept a second-straight clean sheet, but could only muster a 0-0 draw at Cruz Azul, leaving them five points back of first-place Monterrey. At the other end of the table, Joe Corona also played the final 27 minutes of Dorados Sinaloa’s 0-0 draw with Veracruz on Friday night.
