MNT on TV: 33 Players to Watch This Weekend
With Copa America Centenario just around the corner, MNT players in MLS and abroad will use the next month of club matches to state their case for inclusion on the roster for this summer’s historic tournament that begins on June 3.
Saturday, April 23
Things get started early on Saturday as Geoff Cameron and Stoke City will look to bounce back from a lopsided defeat to Tottenham Hotspur when they visit Manchester City (7:45 a.m. – NBCSN).
In Germany, Christian Pulisic will try to score his second goal in as many games as second-place Borussia Dortmund keep their slim hopes of a Bundesliga title alive with a visit to Stuttgart (9:30 a.m. – Fox Soccer Plus). Pulisic and Dortmund will hope for some help from a side they defeated 3-0 in the DFB Pokal Semifinals on Wednesday as John Brooks and Hertha Berlin host Bayern Munich (9:30 a.m. – FS2). Should Dortmund lose and Bayern Munich win, Bayern would clinch the Bundesliga title.
In England, Brad Guzan and Aston Villa will begin to see-out their time in the Premier League as they host Southampton (10 a.m. – NBC Premier League Extra Time) while Matt Miazga will try to get back in the Chelsea lineup with their visit to Bournemouth.
With assists in each of his last two games, Jozy Altidore and teammate Michael Bradley lead Toronto FC to French Canada for a rivalry match against the Montreal Impact (4 p.m. – MLS Live). In a match that pits two players who scored their first goals for their clubs last week, Jermaine Jones and the Colorado Rapids will host Jordan Morris and his Seattle Sounders teammates Clint Dempsey and Brad Evans. (9 p.m. – MLS Live).
In Mexico, Omar Gonzalez and Pachuca will try to bounce back from their defeat to Morelia when they host Chivas de Guadalajara (9 p.m. – NBC Universo), while William Yarbrough, Miguel Ibarra and Club Leon visit Atlas (9:30 p.m. ET – Azteca America).
Sunday, April 24
Fresh off their 3-0 win last week at Norwich, DeAndre Yedlin and Sunderland continue their battle against Premier League relegation when they host a reeling Arsenal side at the Stadium of Light (9 a.m. – NBCSN). In Germany, Fabian Johnson and Borussia Monchengladbach look to maintain their push for a UEFA Champions League place as they welcome his former club, Hoffenheim (9:30 a.m. ET – Fox Soccer Plus).
Major League Soccer closes out the weekend slate with two prime matches. First, Chris Wondolowski will try to continue his goal-scoring run as the San Jose Earthquakes take on Graham Zusi, Matt Besler and Sporting Kansas City (3:30 pm. – ESPN). Finally, Brek Shea and Orlando City SC will look to bounce back from their disappointing 2-2 draw with New England last week with a visit to the New York Red Bulls (7:30 p.m. – FS1).
