CHICAGO (May 16, 2016) – U.S. Soccer announced Monday that the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Committee has denied the appeal made by the Ventura County Fusion to overturn the club’s First Round U.S. Open Cup forfeit against L.A. Wolves FC.
The Committee upheld the decision made on May 14 by the Open Cup Adjudication and Discipline Panel to declare the team’s first round match a forfeit in favor of L.A. The Discipline Panel made this ruling after finding that Ventura County fielded Gabriel Gonzalez, an ineligible player who participated with Cal FC in two Open Division qualifying matches during 2015.
As a result, L.A. Wolves FC will host the Orange County Blues in Second Round play on Wednesday, May 18 at Banning High School Soccer Stadium in Wilmington, Calif. The match will kick off at 8 p.m. PT.
