Perera Nets Hat-Trick for U.S. in 5-3 Beach Soccer Loss to Egypt

DUBAI (Nov. 3, 2016) – Nick Perera continued to showcase his brilliance for the U.S. Beach Soccer National Team in a 5-3 loss to Egypt in its third match of the 2016 Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup.

The match was a back-and-forth effort from the get-go. Egypt struck first, getting past U.S. goal keeper William Morlock early in the game. Perera leveled the score with 2:44 minutes left in the first period, but Egypt once again took the advantage about a minute later.

Lightning struck twice for Perera, who once again tied the game in the second period. However, Egypt notched two more goals, bringing the score to 4-2 in their favor at the end of the second frame. Perera scored his third goal of the match and sixth of the tournament towards the end of the third period to bring the U.S. within one.

The crowd was in for a thrilling end to an incredibly hard-fought match. With momentum seemingly on the USA’s side, Egypt managed to put away the game with another goal in the final seconds, ultimately handing the U.S. a 5-3 loss in their final group stage match of the tournament.

The U.S. will now face Poland on Nov. 4 at 7:15 a.m. ET in a battle for fifth place in the 2016 Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup.
