CHICAGO (July 13, 2017) – U.S. Soccer will conduct the Draw to determine the remaining hosting scenarios for the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinals and Final on Friday, July 14 at 11 a.m. ET. The Draw will be broadcast on ussoccer.com, Facebook Live and will be live-tweeted via the official U.S. Open Cup Twitter account @opencup.
The Draw will determine which clubs will host the two Semifinal games as well as the hosting priority for the tournament Final. One of the Semifinals will be contested by Major League Soccer clubs San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City, who beat the LA Galaxy and FC Dallas, respectively, in the Quarterfinal round. The other Semifinal will be contested by the winner of the Division II Quarterfinal showdown between Miami FC (North American Soccer League) and FC Cincinnati (United Soccer League) and the winner of tonight’s Quarterfinal between MLS clubs New England Revolution and New York Red Bulls at Jordan Field on the Harvard University campus in Boston (7:30 p.m. ET; ussoccer.com). The new date for the Miami FC-FC Cincinnati clash has yet to be determined after the game officially postponed July 12 due to dangerous weather in South Florida.
The Draw MC will be Paul Tenorio and the Draw procedure will be conducted and overseen by Paul Marstaller, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Commissioner.
The Semifinal round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is scheduled for August 8-9, and the Final on September 20.
The 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the 104th installment of the competition, the third-longest consecutively running cup competition in the world and the oldest cup competition in the United States. The winner qualifies directly for the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League, where a chance to reach the FIFA Club World Cup is on offer.
