With the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for September’s all-important World Cup Qualifying matches set to be revealed exclusively on ESPN on Sunday, Aug. 27 (5:30 p.m. ET), those for the MNT’s two opponents – Costa Rica and Honduras -- came out Friday.
Set to face the MNT on Friday, Sept. 1 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., Costa Rica manager Oscar Ramírez named a strong 24-player roster for Los Ticos’ visit to the U.S. and their home encounter with group-leaders Mexico four days later.
Notably missing from the Costa Rica roster is Arsenal attacker Joel Campbell, who will miss the remainder of qualifying after suffering a knee injury in the 1-1 draw with Canada during the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. A total of seven players ply their trade in M.L.S., including a pair from Minnesota United FC.
Meanwhile, Honduras boss Jorge Luis Pinto has called up a 29-player roster for Los Catrachos’ trip to Trinidad & Tobago on Sept. 1 and home match against the USA on Sept. 5.
Interestingly, veteran forward Carlo Costly returns to the side for the first time since March 29, 2016. The prolific scorer for the National Team has amassed 32 goals in 74 appearances for Honduras, and had a public falling out with the current manager that led to his absence of 18 months.
