Before U.S. Men’s National Team players headed to New Jersey for the beginning of September World Cup Qualifying camp, they had one final bit of business to attend to with their clubs.
Here’s how the 26 players that head coach Bruce Arena called up performed ahead of their arrival this week:
On Friday, Bobby Wood tallied his second goal in three matches for Hamburg, scraping home what would stand as the game-winner in the 34th minute of HSV’s 3-1 victory at Köln. After having to wait until last December for its first win of the 2016-17 campaign, Hamburg joins Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich as the only three teams to have wins from their first two matches of the Bundesliga season.

Later that night, after missing out on four previous games with an adductor injury, Omar Gonzalez returned to action for Pachuca, going 90 minutes in their 2-1 defeat at Club Tijuana. Though he didn’t play, the U.S. center back did make the 18 earlier in the week for Los Tuzos’ 4-1 win against Veracruz.
In similar news on Saturday morning, Fabian Johnson saw his first action of the new Bundesliga campaign, playing the final 10 minutes of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 2-2 draw at Augsburg. The U.S. midfielder was held out of the Foals’ season opener last week when he experienced neck pain leading up to the side’s 1-0 win at Köln.
On Saturday night, Alejandro Bedoya bagged his first goal of the season, putting home a rebound off a corner kick in the Philadelphia Union’s 2-2 draw with Atlanta United FC.

Three M.L.S. rivalry matches highlighted the late weekend action on Sunday and in each game, a player headed to camp found the back of the net.
Just moments after Jozy Altidore was named to the 26-player World Cup Qualifying squad on Sunday, he tapped home what would stand as the game winning goal in the 53rd minute of Toronto FC's 3-1 defeat of Canadian rivals Montreal Impact. The goal was Altidore's 11th of the campaign and helped TFC open up a nine-point lead over New York City FC in the M.L.S Supporters Shield race.

The Cali Clasico saw visitors San Jose Earthquakes run away with a 3-0 win at the LA Galaxy. MNT forward Chris Wondolowski capped the performance by cleverly chipping home a rebound off Quincy Amarikwa's attempt in second-half stoppage time. Along with being Wondo's 11th of the season, it also was his 64th career road goal, pushing him past Landon Donovan for the most in Major League Soccer history.
In the Cascadia Cup nightcap, midfielder Cristian Roldan bagged his sixth goal of the season in Seattle Sounders FC's 1-1 draw with Portland Timbers. A well-placed corner kick found Roman Torres in the box where the Seattle captain clashed with a Portland defender before it fell for Roldan who poked home the opening goal in the 18th minute.
