WOERDEN, Netherlands (June 12, 2018) – The U.S. Under-15 Girls’ National Team pulled off a dramatic draw with the Netherlands, tying 2-2 after midfielder Jillian Shimkin tallied four minutes deep into second half stoppage time in the 80-minute game.
The USA won the first of two games against its Dutch counterpart, taking the first match 2-1 on June 10 as forward Simone Jackson scored both U.S. goals.
All four goals in this one came in the second half as the Netherlands took the lead in the 54th minute, but the USA mounted an almost immediate response and it only took three minutes for forward Allyson Sentnor to knot the match at 1-1. The Dutch took the lead again in the 76th minute, and seemingly were headed for a split in the series before Shimkin tallied in the final seconds.
Nine players on this roster recently competed for the U.S. U-16 GNT at the UEFA Women’s Development Tournament in Portugal where the young Americans won all three games, defeating Belgium by a 5-1 score while downing both Portugal and Switzerland, 2-1.
These were the second set of international matches abroad in the history of this age group after two games in Germany last fall, both U.S. wins.
This team competes biennially in the Concacaf U-15 Girls' Championship, but the one CONCACAF competition the team has played in so far (and won in 2016) was staged in the United States.
The next Concacaf Girls’ Under-15 Championship will be held from August 6-13, 2018, at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. This will mark the third time this Concacaf competition has been held for U-15 girls. The USA did not participate in the first tournament in 2014, but with many of the players currently with the U-17 Women’s National Team that qualified for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, won the competition in 2016 in Orlando.
This age group of players is nearing the end of a two-year cycle as U-15s before transitioning to U-17s in 2019 when they will form the core of the team that will attempt to qualify for the 2020 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
