March 2012 Bar of the Month When in San Antonio, Texas, there are two things to remember: The Alamo and Freetail Brewing Company. Both are very important places in American history. The former is known for the historic battle in 1836 and the latter for being this month’s U.S. Soccer Bar of the Month.
Freetail is the top rated brewpub in Texas (by no less a source than beeradvocate.com) and we all know that Texas is really big, so that’s no small honor. It’s no surprise. Freetail has been brewing terrific in-house beers in myriad styles since 2008. Best of all, they’re not selfish; they bring in other Texas microbrews to let you sample the tastes of the rest of the Lone Star State.
While it’s surely a sublime pleasure to enjoy a cold craft beer on any hot Texas evening, Freetail is at its best when bringing together U.S. Soccer fans to enjoy those cold craft beers while watching the National Teams. Most importantly, there is no talk of Texas secession for at least 90 minutes when the Yanks are playing.

O'Brien's Pub, located in San Diego, Calif., has been named Best Soccer Bar in the 2011 Best of U.S. Soccer Awards. U.S. fans voted O'Brien's the winner with 25 percent of the votes when polls closed in January. Since becoming a member of the Official U.S. Soccer Bar Program in 2009, the pub has been recognized as U.S. Soccer's Bar of the Month twice. The Bar Program recognized O'Brien's as the November Bar of the Month in 2010, and it was one of eight Official Bars honored in July as a premier destination to watch the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. Billed as "The Hoppiest Place on Earth," O'Brien's is an established destination for San Diego's soccer fans. O'Brien's Pub caters to California-based fans who enjoy the boisterous atmosphere during National Team games.
