U.S. Futsal National Team Beaten 8-0 by Iran in Grand Prix

The U.S. Futsal National Team posted its second loss of the Futsal Grand Prix in Manaus, Brazil, when the team fell 8-0 against Iran on Oct. 17.

MANAUS, Brazil (Oct. 17, 2011) - The U.S. Futsal National Team posted its second loss of the Futsal Grand Prix tournament in Manaus, Brazil, when the team fell 8-0 against Iran on Oct. 17.

The U.S. lost against Uruguay in the first match of Group C play on Oct. 16 and were unable to get on the scoreboard in both games. After Iran scored the opening goal at the 1:50 mark, the U.S. did well to prevent the No. 6 team in the world from adding to their lead for the next 15 minutes, until Iran doubled its score in the 17^th minute.

The U.S. had its best chance in the tournament in the second half, when Jeremy Ortiz went one-on-one with Iran’s goalkeeper, but Mojtaba Nasirniaie Farouji made the save to protect Iran’s 5-0 lead and clean sheet.
