Seattle Sounders FC HEAD COACH SIGI SCHMIDT

On if he ever imagined Seattle would win the Open Cup in their first year:
“Obviously you dream about things like that, but you’re not sure if it’s going to happen. This organization is tremendous, our fans have been tremendous, and to be able to bring back the Open Cup trophy, to qualify for next year’s Champions League I think is so great for our fans.”

On if winning the Open Cup sets the bar higher for the rest of the season:
“It’s kept the bar where it is. We’ve always had the bar that we wanted to make the playoffs. But certainly this is something we can take back, it’s something tangible and it’s something that becomes a defining moment for our team and something we can build on.”

Seattle Sounders Forward ROGER LEVESQUE

On how special it is to win the Open Cup:
“We’ve been chasing this Open Cup here in Seattle for a few years now with the USL team I was apart of. We only made it to the semifinal, but this year with a new group of guys and a new organization, we were able to get it done.”

On scoring the winning goal:
“It’s all Sebastien La Toux, all his hard work and effort and determination throughout the game. He won the ball off their center back, took a touch to the endline and I just made it to the back post. I was going to do everything I could not to let that slip by.”
