LOCH ARBOUR, N.J. (Nov. 19, 2005) - Harry W. Baldwin, a longtime member of the U.S. Soccer referee community passed away on Friday, Nov. 18 at his home at the age of 73 in Loch Arbour, N.J.

Baldwin was a National Director of Referee Development and the Director of Officials in the old North American Soccer League. He was awarded life membership in U.S. Soccer, the National Education Association and the New Jersey Education Association. He received the Eddie Pearson Award from the United States Soccer Foundation for his work as an official. He was a Hall of Fame member of the New Jersey Coaches Association, New Jersey Youth Soccer Association and the U.S. Soccer.

Baldwin was born in New Brunswick on June 18, 1932, and lived in Spring Lake Heights before moving to Loch Arbour 40 years ago. He graduated from Trenton State College with a BS degree in 1957; he then attained his MA degree from Seton Hall University, South Orange, in 1959, and did graduate studies in Temple University, Philadelphia, from 1963 to 1973. He was a corporal and master gunner in the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1953 to 1955. He was a physical-education teacher for the Wall Township School System from 1957 to 1964. He was a principal of several Wall Township elementary schools from 1964 to 1992. He was the owner and operator of H.W.B. Associates Retirement and Financial Services. He was a recipient of the National Distinguished Principal Award in 1992 and the Golden Lamp Award from the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association in 1991. He was the chairman of the Teacher's Pension and Annuity Fund Board of Trustees from 1973 to the present, and a member of the N.J. State Investment Council from 1980 until his death,

Baldwin is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Baumann; two sons and a daughter-in-law, H. William and Samantha of Pahrump, Nev., and John L. of Loch Arbour; a daughter and son-in-law, Alice Elizabeth and Jesse Harmon of Jackson; a brother, John of Avon; a sister, Janet Stokes of Toms River; and a granddaughter, Lia.
