CARSON, Calif. (Sept. 30, 2006) – The U.S. Under-15 Girls’ National Team closed out the Women’s Nike Friendlies on Friday with a convincing 5-0 victory over U-16 Surf SC at The Home Depot Center.

All five of the U.S. goals came off set pieces, including two off corner kicks and to direct kicks that found the back of the net in either half.

In the sixth minute, midfielder Lauren Matheson drilled a 25-yard rocket into the left side of the net to open the U.S. account. Surf SC held the U.S. scoreless in the remainder of the half as another Matheson free kick from the top left corner of the penalty area found only the cross bar.

In the second half, the U.S. scored three goals in just more than 10 minutes on similar plays. In the 52nd minute, Annick McBryar headed in a loose ball in the area after a corner kick, and in the 59th and 62nd minutes Olivia Klei headed home loose balls after a corner kick and free kick from the wing, respectively. It was the second two-goal game for Klei at the 2006 Women’s Nike Friendlies.

The final U.S. goal came in the 81st minute when Kim Castleberry scored on a low free kick that avoided the wall and the goalkeeper before settling into the left side of the net.

The U.S. U-15 GNT won all three of its games at the 2006 Women’s Nike Friendlies with a combined goal differential of 12-1.
