MIAMI, Fla. (Nov. 19, 2006) - The Mexican Women's National Team defeated Trinidad & Tobago, 3-0, in its quarterfinal match on Sunday, Nov. 19, at Tropical Park in Miami and now advances to face the USA in the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Kickoff for USA-Mexico clash is 7 p.m. PT. In the other quarterfinal, also played in Miami, Jamaica defeated Panama, 2-0, and will face Canada in the other Women's Gold Cup semifinal at 4:30 p.m. PT at The HDC. The winners of the semifinals earn CONCACAF's two direct berths to the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup, being held Sept. 10-20 in five Chinese cities, and will meet in the Women's Gold Cup championship game on Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m. PT at The HDC. The semifinal losers will play for third place at 3 p.m. with a berth in a two-game playoff against Japan on the line. The winner of that home-and-away series with the Japanese will earn the final berth to the Women's World Cup. Both semifinals, the third-place match and the championship game will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel. The Soca Princesses put up a battle against the Mexicans, but fell victim to three mistakes by its goalkeeper. The first one came when the T&T 'keeper spilled a free kick from Mexican defender Monica Gonzalez right in front of the net and Patricia Perez slammed home the rebound. At the stroke of halftime, Gonzalez got a goal of her own, lofting a 40-yard shot over the head of the T&T 'keeper. Mexican star forward Maribel Dominguez added the final goal in the second half, running onto a long ball that had bounced over the head of the T&T 'keeper. "Mari-Gol" only had to tap it into the net. The meeting in the Women's Gold Cup semifinal will mark the second match of the year between the USA and Mexico. The Americans defeated the Tricolores 3-1 on Sept. 13 in Rochester, N.Y., as Abby Wambach scored twice and Lindsay Tarpley added the other goal.
