Goals from Adam Cristman and Patrick Ianni lifted the U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team to a 2-0 win in a scrimmage against Chivas USA on Thursday morning on Training Field #1 at The Home Depot Center. Both teams made wholesale changes at halftime, giving 22 players 45 minutes each. Cristman opened the scoring in the 30th minute when he picked off a back pass and sprinted past Claudio Suarez, beating goalkeeper Brad Guzan with a curling strike to the upper left corner. With 10 minutes remaining, Ianni nailed a full volley off the underside of the crossbar after a well-placed free kick by Hunter Freeman. With the U.S. based portion of the training camp now complete, an 18-man group will depart for Kumamoto, Japan on Friday morning. The U.S. will face the Japan U-22 Men’s National Team on Feb. 21, followed by a friendly against JFL side Rosso Kumamoto two days later. Both matches will kick off at 7 p.m. local time (5 a.m. ET).
