U-17 MNT Posts 2-0 Win vs. El Salvador to Open Doubleheader in Tampa  

TAMPA, Fla. (March 25, 2007) – The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team earned a 2-0 win vs. El Salvador in the opening match of a doubleheader at Raymond James Stadium. Goal-scorers Greg Garza and Tommy Meyer tallied in the first half with goals in the 17th and 24th minutes, respectively.

At the other end of the field, Zach McMath got the start in goal, while Josh Lambo held El Salvador scoreless in the second half to combine for the shutout. It marks the eighth clean sheet in 2007 for the U-17s.

Head coach John Hackworth’s squad continues to prepare for Group B of the CONCACAF U-17 Final Round Qualifying Tournament. The five-team, round-robin tournament will take place from April 28 to May 6 in Kingston, Jamaica, with all the matches being played at National Stadium. Along with the host, the U.S. will face Canada, Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago (full schedule). The top three teams will advance to the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will take place in South Korea from Aug. 18 to Sept. 9.
