Development Academy Weekend Wrap-Up - December 4, 2007  
CASL Makes Development Academy Debut

CHICAGO (Dec. 4, 2007) – In a light weekend of for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, six clubs were in action the weekend before the 2007 Development Academy Nike Friendlies take place in Bradenton, Fla. from Dec. 6-9.

CASL United U-15/16 opened their Development Academy campaign with a 4-1 win on the road in Charleston, S.C., where they took on Bridge FA in Atlantic Conference action. Just seconds after kickoff, James Johnson got CASL on the board, and Matthew Wescoe made it 2-0 just five minutes later. CASL’s Charles Root tallied in the 20th minute and Magnus Sorensen scored just two minutes into the second half. Bridge’s Justin Watson scored a goal in the 73rd minute for the host’s lone goal.

U-15/16
The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team ’92s topped Birmingham United, 3-0, in Bradenton, Fla., on Sunday. The U.S. got out to an early lead with Ryan Finley putting away a goal in just the second minute. Finley’s second of the game came in the 35th minute, giving the U.S. a 2-0 halftime advantage. Donovan Henry scored just three minutes into the second half, and they U.S. would hold on for the three goal win.

U-17/18
Two early goals were enough for the U-17/18 Richmond Kickers to top the Richmond Strikers, 2-1, in the second of two meetings this season between the cross-town rivals. The Kickers’ Jonathan Kourlesis opened the scoring in the 13th minute, and seven minutes later Jack Baxter put the Kickers up by two. The Strikers’ Brian Ownby’s sixth goal of the season cut the lead in half in the 73rd minute, but the Kickers held on for the 2-1 final.

The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team ‘91s hosted Birmingham United U-17/18 on Sunday, coming away with a 5-0 victory. Carlos Martinez scored two goals on the afternoon, while Jaime Gutierrez, Jared Watts and Andrew Craven each added one.

Bridge FA hosted CASL in Atlantic Conference action on Sunday, with the visitors coming away with a tightly-contested 0-0 draw in their first Development Academy game. Bridge picked up their fifth draw of the fall season to bring their record to 1-1-5.
