FRISCO, Texas (Feb. 17, 2008) – With 44 interconference games on the first day of the Development Academy Winter Showcase, there was no shortage of action at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. The Under-15/16 Chicago Fire and PA Classics both opened their Academy campaigns on Saturday morning, with the Fire picking up an early goal from Bryan Cisulka. The 13th minute strike would hold up to be the game-winner. B.W. Gottschee’s U-15/16 squad had the most potent offense of the day, with Dominick Sarle scoring a hat trick in a 6-2 win over FC Portland. Portland actually took a lead in the 11th minute, an advantage that stood until Sarle’s first goal of the day in the 33rd minute. Raphael Abreu scored in the 36th minute to give Gottschee a halftime lead. Adam Arinaga leveled the score at 2-2 when he scored for Portland in the 55th minute, but less than a minute later, Orlando Casteneda gave Gottschee a lead that it would never relinquish. Sarle’s goals in the 60th and 70th minutes rounded out the scoring for the final score of 6-2. Antonio Rosales and Taylor Kemp each scored two goals for Real Colorado Under-17/18 as they topped North Meck, 4-0. Rosales opened the scoring in the 10th minute and scored again just seconds before halftime. Kemp added two late goals in the 78th and 83rd minutes to ensure victory for Real Colorado. The New York Red Bulls Under-17/18 began their Development Academy season with a 2-0 win against Ohio Elite behind a pair of second-half goals. Dwayne Dove broke the scoreless tie in the 56th minute, and Matt Kassel added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute for the 2-0 final. • Full results In addition to the action on the fields of Pizza Hut Park, there is also plenty to experience in the players’ lounge at Pizza Hut Park.
