Academy Scouting Network Reaches Across the Country
CHICAGO (May 9, 2008) -- Among the many spectators watching last night’s local Academy match between Real Colorado (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Colorado Rapids (Commerce City, Colo.), Bobby Muuss was one of the few with an objective view on the local rivalry that saw Real Colorado pick up a 2-0 win over the Rapids. Muuss was on assignment from Development Academy Director of Scouting Dave Sarachan to evaluate the Academy teams and potentially identify the next crop of National Team players.

“It’s a great opportunity to be a part of scouting some of the young potentials of the Youth National Team,” said Muuss. “It gives me an opportunity to be a part of what I think is a great program and I am getting to see teams and players traveling into Denver that I normally wouldn’t have a chance of watching.”

Based on his long-standing relationship with the Under-17 Men's National Team Residency Program, Muuss was selected by Development Academy Technical Director John Hackworth to scout Academy games. Muuss joins a pool of 35 other National Team Scouts to perform individual and team evaluations across the country in the program.

Despite his scouting responsibilites, Muuss was able took a moment to a appreciate the atmosphere of the local derby.

“It was a highly contested match and a little bit of a local derby,” said Muuss. “There was a little more enthusiasm from players and fans because both teams are from the Denver area.”

The U-17/18 Real Colorado and Rapids kicked off at Highlands Heritage Park and completed the first half with a score of 0-0. Real Colorado powered back onto the field in the second half and scored 2 goals, ending the match with a final score of 2-0.

Muuss is one of eleven National Team Scouts attending games this weekend alone. All of the scouts evaluate top talent, take notes on team performance and answer questions on the new National Team Training Program.
