Davies Goal Gives U.S. Come-From-Behind Tie vs. Boca U-20s

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (Friday, May 28, 2004) – A bouncing strike in the 48th minute off the foot of forward Charlie Davies gave the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team a 1-1 tie with the Boca Juniors U-20s at their training ground next to La Bombanera.

Boca Juniors got on the board first, finding the net past U.S. goalkeeper Marcus Rein in the 13th minute. Rein made three saves the rest of the way as the U.S. would not give up another goal in the match.

The U.S. tally came in the 48th minute when Rich Costanzo crossed the ball into the center from the right corner. Davies then sent a slow, bouncing shot that found the back of the net.

The U-18s will face a River Plate youth side on Monday before returning to the U.S. On Wednesday, the team fell to Argentina’s U-18s 2-1 despite taking the early 1-0 lead.
