U.S. Open Cup Adjudication and Discipline Panel Suspends Chicago Fire Midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco

CHICAGO (July 30, 2008) - The U.S. Open Cup Adjudication and Discipline Panel has suspended Chicago Fire midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco for six U.S. Open Cup matches or the next two years of U.S. Open Cup competition, whichever is greater. The suspension is due to his actions during the U.S. Open Cup match between the Chicago Fire and D.C. United on July 8, 2008.

The panel met on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 and listened to testimony from the match officials, D.C. United officials and Blanco before their deliberations.

Due to the suspension, Blanco cannot play in any U.S. Open Cup matches in 2009 or 2010, and possibly longer depending on the number of games Blanco's team participates in the tournament in those years.
