U.S. National Futsal Team Falls to UNISUL, 6-0, in First Game of Brazilian Tour
  • U.S. to play three more opponents in South America before returning to Milwaukee to face Japan on Sept. 12 and 14
  • The U.S. National Futsal team was defeated, 6-0, by Brazilian club side, UNISUL, on Sept. 1. In Brazil, UNISUL is part of the Liga Futsal, one of the professional leagues in the South American country where futsal enjoys immense popularity. The U.S. is on a four game tour of Brazil, gearing up for the FIFA Futsal World Cup which begins in Brazil later this month. Following the matches in Brazil, the U.S. will head to Milwaukee for games against Japan on Sept. 12 and 14.

Forward Jamar Beasley was injured in the second half of the game, however a post-match x-ray was negative. Though Beasley will not be available for the rest of the games on the trip in Brazil, he is likely to be fit for the games against Japan in Milwaukee.

Brazil is the host country of the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup, which kicks off on Sept. 30. The U.S. Futsal Team has been drawn into Group B along with Italy, Portugal, Thailand and Paraguay.
