U.S. Beach Soccer National Team Overpowers Jamaica 7-3 to Advance to Semifinals

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (April 2, 2015) – With a dominating performance from the start, the U.S. Beach Soccer National Team took care of business against Jamaica in the quarterfinals to defeat the Caribbean nation 7-3, and advance to the semifinals of the 2015 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship at Estadio de Fútbol de Playa Costa del Sol in San Salvador, El Salvador.

Once again, U.S. captain Nick Perera, who returned from a one-game suspension after yellow card accumulation, led his team to victory notching four goals in the match to secure the USA a place among the four best teams left in the tournament.

Alessandro Canale wasted no time for the USA, scoring on the second minute of play. Perera made his first contribution to the U.S. effort four minutes later, putting the USA on top 2-0 with more than half of the first period still left to go. Jamaica didn’t stay quiet and in the final minutes got on the board with a counterattack strike from Rohan Reid to keep it a one-goal game.

The U.S. continued its dominance in the next 12-minutes. Perera scored a hat trick in the period and despite another shot from Reid, the score was now 5-2, and Jamaica’s opportunities started to dwindle down.

Finally, in the third and final period, the USA added two more tallies. One more from Canale in the 25th minute, and the other from Christ Toth in the 35th to close out the match and secure a spot in the semifinals for the stars and stripes.

The USA faces Mexico in the semifinals on April 3 at 9 p.m. ET. The winner will not only advance to the championship match of the 2015 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship but will also secure one of two qualifying spots for the 2015 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup to be held in Portugal from July 9-19.

U.S. Beach Soccer National Team in El Salvador Ready to Defend CONCACAF Crown

The U.S. Beach Soccer National Team will begin its quest to defend its title at the 2015 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship when it faces Antigua & Barbuda on March 28 at 7:45 p.m. ET at Estadio de Fútbol de Playa Costa del Sol in San Salvador, El Salvador.

U.S. Beach Soccer National Team head coach Eddie Soto called a 12-player roster that is now in San Salvador ready to kick things off and try to qualify for another Beach Soccer World Cup.

“I am really happy with how the schedule panned out," said Soto about kicking off qualifying in El Salvador. “To play a game on the first day, then we have a day off, and then we play two in a row. After that, preliminaries are done and quarterfinals come after. We’re going to take things one day at a time and hopefully have a good run in the tournament. I think our fitness level is great and our guys have done an excellent job of taking care of themselves.”

U.S. forward Nick Perera also commented on how important it will be for the USA to take advantage of its strengths in order to not only defend its CONCACAF crown, but qualify for the Beach Soccer World Cup.

“For us, it’s about getting into the World Cup," said Perera. “I think going into El Salvador is tough because that was the team we beat in the championship in 2013. It will be difficult to get back there. But we’re also very fit, athletic, and hardworking, and we defend really well. Those are things we are hoping will help us get to where we want to.”

The U.S. was drawn into Group C where it will play Antigua & Barbuda on March 28, take on Barbados on March 30 at 9 p.m. ET, and face the Bahamas on March 31 at 9 p.m. ET.
