Salazar has been a FIFA referee since 2005 and an MLS referee since 2000. A former collegiate player himself, Salazar also referees NCAA Division I soccer for the Big Ten and ACC.
Salazar is one of four officials hired full-time in early 2007 as part of U.S. Soccer’s new program designed to enhance high-level performance, training and development opportunities for the sport’s elite officials in the United States.
Salazar graduated from Highland High School in 1990 and Judson College (Illinois) in 1994, playing varsity soccer for both schools. Prior to joining U.S. Soccer full time, Salazar was an insurance agent.
Salazar’s first international match was a friendly between South Korea and Mexico played in front of almost 70,000 fans at the Los Angeles Coliseum in February of 2006. His major assignments include the Toulon Festival and the 2005 CONCACAF Under-17 Qualifying Tournament.
Salazar resides in Elgin, Ill., with his wife, Jennifer, and daughters Isabella, 4, and Iliana, 2.
