Iowa-native Terry Vaughn has been a member of U.S. Soccer since 1987 and a FIFA referee since 2004, and is one of four officials hired full-time in early 2007 as part of U.S. Soccer’s new program. Designed to enhance high-level performance, training and development opportunities for the sport’s elite officials in the United States, U.S. Soccer’s new full-time referee program is something which Vaughn will be intricately involved in.
Vaughn played sweeper on his collegiate team at Coe College and at Iowa City West High School. He was the Director of Referees for Iowa Soccer and also worked in security prior to joining the U.S. Soccer Federation.
Vaughn, whose first international assignment was a match between Jamaica and Guatemala in 2004, has also worked the CONCACAF Under-20 Qualifying Tournament, the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal, several 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches and the dramatic 4-4 draw between Club America and FC Barcelona during a friendly in Houston, Texas.
Vaughn and his wife, Kim, and two-year-old daughter Kyla, live on eight acres in Mt. Vernon that he enjoys working on in his free time.
