  1989 FIFA U-16 World Championship - Scotland

Teams: 16
Dates: July 12-25

USA
Ranking in Group: 3rd
Overall Record: 1-1-1
Final Ranking: 10th

In the third FIFA U-16 World Championship, the U.S. team showed improvement as they opened the tournament by defeating Brazil, 1-0, on a goal by Imad Baba. East Germany proved to be too much for the Americans to handle in the next game, however, as the Germans cruised to a 5-2 victory. The U.S. team rebounded and fought to a 2-2 tie with Australia, as Anthony Wood and Todd Haskins both found the net for the Americans, but it wasn’t enough to help them reach the next round.
