U.S. National Teams: The co-captain of the U.S. U-17 Women’s World Cup Team  … A member of the U.S. team that won the 2012 CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship in Guatemala and qualified for the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup … Started and played every minute of all five games at the World Cup qualifying tournament, picking up one assist … One of three players who played all 450 minutes in Guatemala … Leads the team in minutes played in international games this year with 1,214 … One of the team leaders with 17 U-17 career caps heading into the Women’s World Cup … Played with the U.S. U-15 GNT in 2010 … Attended the U.S. Soccer U-14 I.D. camp in 2009.

Personal: Full name is Madeline Ann Bauer … Goes by Maddie, but nicknames are Mad-Dog and Mad Bau … Made the honor roll as a freshman, sophomore and junior for having a 4.0 GPA or higher … Loves to go to the beach, travel and eat good food … She also likes shopping and running, but not at the same time … Volunteers with special needs kids at a camp during the summer … Her dad participates in triathlons and her mom played tennis … Her older brother plays lacrosse at UC Santa Barbara … Also has a little brother, who plays football and lacrosse at Mater Dei … Amazingly, all three Bauer kids were born at the same time – 6:08 p.m. – in the same hospital (Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach) and she thinks even in the same room … The three words that best describe her off the field are “talkative, funny and humble” … The three words that best describe her on the field are “calm, tenacious and communicative” … Her current mottos, both spoken by Teddy Roosevelt, are “Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground” and “At the worst, if he fails, at least fail while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory or defeat” … Few people know that she wears glasses as school … Best present she ever received was her Labrador puppy, Riley … Also has a lab named Kona …Favorite class is AP European History … Aspires to be an anchor on ESPN’s SportsCenter or to do something in business … Favorite snack is strawberries and Nutella … Favorite soccer players are Heather O’Reilly, Christie Rampone and Lionel Messi … Best part about being a soccer player is all the Nike attire they get … A few of her favorite musical artists are Adele, Beyonce, Cold Play and Florence and the Machine … She’s named after her grandma’s best friend, Madeline, who “was a classy lady” … Her favorite cereal is Reese’s Puffs … Favorite desert is frozen yogurt … First thing she notices about people is their smile … Favorite smells are the ocean and a Christmas tree.

College / High School: Has verbally committed to attend Stanford in the fall of 2013 … Attends Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif … Was defensive MVP her freshman and sophomore years for the Monarchs … An All-CIF selection … Missed most of her junior season due to national team commitments.

Club: From U-12s through U-17s she has played for the Slammers FC … From U-9 through U-11 she played for the Mustang Blast in Danville, Calif. before moving to Southern California … Her first team, at the U-5 level, was the Big Dogs … Finished third in the ECNL National Championships in 2012 as U-17s.
