U.S. U-20 Women Head to Texas for Three Matches

U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team head coach Jillian Ellis will take her squad to Texas from March 23-28 for three matches against college teams currently in the midst of their spring seasons. All the matches will be played at Texas A&M in College Station, site of the 2007 NCAA Women’s College Cup. The U-20s will take on BYU on March 24 at 6 p.m., then play SMU on March 25 at 4 p.m. The USA will finish the tour with a game against the host Aggies at 6 p.m. on March 28. The U-20s went to a similar event last year in early match in College Station, and lost to both BYU and Texas A&M, in what were the only losses of the year for that U-20 squad against non-international sides. Ellis has brought 22 players for the three matches, as the team continues its very early preparations for qualifying to the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be held in Chile. Players born on or after January 1, 1988, are eligible for the next U-20 World Cup. Ellis has called in two players from the host Texas A&M in goalkeeper Kristin Arnold and midfielder Whitney Hooper, as well as two players born in 1990, midfielder Teresa Noyola and forward Rachel Wood. The majority of the roster is1988s with a few players born in 1989.

U.S. U-20 Women Head to Mexico for Two Matches

U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team head coach Jillian Ellis will take 18 players to Mexico from Feb. 18-23 as the team will play the full Mexico Women's National Team in two games. These will be the first full international matches for the U-20s during the new cycle as the team begins the long road to the 2008 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup to be held sometime in the early fall in Chile. The U.S. team will face Mexico on Feb. 20 and 22 at 4 p.m. in Ixtapan de la Sal, located about 80 miles from Mexico City. The matches will be highly competitive for the young U.S. side as Mexico is deep into preparations for two crucial Women's World Cup playoff matches against Japan on March 10 (in Japan) and March 17 (in Mexico). The U.S. roster features midfielder Tobin Heath, a veteran of the U.S. team that participated in the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship in Russia.
