The U.S. WNT opened training camp today in Bradenton, Fla. as the clock struck 100 days until the opening of the 2012 Olympics. This will be a hot weather, high-intensity training event for the U.S. team, filled with weights, lots of fitness and lots of playing, as the team continues its arc towards the London games.
Without a match at the end of the event, U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage and her staff will push the squad hard. Of course, the U.S. WNT is used to nothing if not hard work.
Sundhage has called in 27 players for the camp, but only 25 trained today as Megan Rapinoe had some previously scheduled media events in New York City and arrived into camp on Wednesday evening while Christen Press will arrive for her first-call up on Thursday from Sweden, where she is playing with the team from Gothenburg.
