Brian "Cobi" Span has joined Swedish first division club Djurgarden and will start trainning with the team early next year.
Span, who got his nickname from U.S. Men's National Team star Cobi Jones, was a member of the U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team Residency program in the Spring 2008 semester and spent three years with Development Academy club FC Westchester.
The New York native was also chosen for the 2009 Winter Showcase Select Games as a part of the Red team.
The imposing forward played two seasons at Virginia and led the team in assists (5), coming in second on goals (7), his sophomore year. Over the summer, Span spent three weeks training at Bundesliga club Hoffenheim, home of fellow U.S. internationals Fabian Johnson, Danny Williams, Joe Gyau and Charles Renken.
