Training for the team changed venues today, the session moving to the training ground of ŠK SFM Senec, a local first division team. A winding journey through the outskirts of Bratislava took the bus through the summer resort town of Senec, nicknamed the "Sunny Lakes" for the body of water that serves as a respite from the summer sun. Passing through downtown, we soon wound our way through the village of Reca, population 1,000. Driving past fields and country homes, the bus seemed to suddenly happen upon a bright green pitch that bore no signs from the road. With the smell of burning wood greeting the players departing the bus, they were ushered into the small facility where team officials were waiting to meet them. Nothing fancy, but clearly well cared for. Heavily involved in youth football with more than 300 kids in their program, they are a small club with an obvious passion for the game and pride in their efforts . The experience was a simple and pleasant reminder of what growing up loving the sport is all about.
