MNT Sep 6, 2009
Here's the Vuvuzebra celebrating last night's win with the guys. No surprise there; he lives for moments like these. Jozy Altidore's sixth goal of World Cup qualifying was the difference in last night's match with El Salvador. The 2-1 victory put the U.S. in second place in the hexagonal, with Honduras nipping the top spot on goal differential. Another notable stat from last night was Landon Donovan setting the record for World Cup qualifying appearances, with 32. Donovan marked the occasion with an assertive performance, notching two assists and earning ussoccer.com Man of the Match honors. Three games to go, and the turnaround is quick. All six teams will be in action on Wednesday night.
Today it was back to work for the MNT, with starters going to the gym for a regen session and last night's reserves going to a field for normal training. The team had this afternoon off so guys took the chance to get out in park city. Some went shopping at the outlet mall near us, while others went to Park City's Olympic Park. The park was the site of numerous events during the 2002 Winter Olympics, including the bobsled. Guys even got to ride the bobsled, with Tim Howard and Brad Guzan earning the fastest time. Dinner is off tonight and some reservations have already been made. Tomorrow it's an early departure for Trinidad...
