The 2012 Development Academy Winter Showcase had its full slate of teams on display with 80 games played throughout Saturday. It also marked the opening day for the U-15/16 age group.
There certainly was a fair share of goals throughout the day. Gerson Umana and Graydon Hester each had two goals as the D.C. United U-15/16 team rolled to a 6-1 victory against the North Carolina Fusion. North Meck’s U-15/16s also posted a convincing victory as Tanner Roberts and David Lozano had two goals apiece for a 5-0 victory against South Central Premier.
The Texas Rush U-15/16 team overcame a second deficit with Marc-Anthone Magana scoring an equalizer in the 75th minute and David Christopher Jameson the game-winner in the 80th minute for a 2-1 victory against the Richmond Strikers.
The U-17/18 age group entered its second day, and the Georgia United U-17/18 offense continued to pour in goals as Amiri Abraham posted three tallies during the team’s 5-0 victory against Real Colorado on Saturday.
Virginia Rush’s Robert Kerby leads all scorers with seven goals in two games after posting three goals during the U-17/18 team’s 6-0 win against Met Oval Juventus on Saturday.
Among some other noteworthy performances, Ben Gallik scored the game-winning goal two minutes into second-half stoppage time to lead the Richmond Strikers U-17/18 team to a 2-1 victory against Seacoast United. The Seattle Sounders’ Tolossa Hassan captured the winning goal in the 90th minute of the U-17/18 team’s 2-1 victory against Development Academy newcomer Montreal Impact, which played the entire second half down a man and was leading 1-0 at halftime.
