The Chicago Fire and D.C. United Academy teams will travel with their clubs’ first teams to the Carolina Challenge Academy Cup in Charleston, S.C. this weekend. South Carolina United, who is a partner of the Charleston Battery (USL-Pro) and North Meck SC will also participate in the four team event.
The Carolina Challenge is an annual preseason tournament for Major League Soccer and United Soccer League teams that dates back to 2004. This will be the first time that there will be an Academy portion of the event, with U-15/16 and U-17/18 teams competing.
The event will also mark the first time that South Carolina United will play wearing the Battery colors as the clubs continue to grow their partnership.
The Academy teams will be on hand at Blackbaud Stadium to watch the senior teams compete.
