Defender Becky Sauerbrunn has been called into U.S. WNT Training Camp, replacing midfielder Joanna Lohman, who has not sufficiently recovered from an ankle injury suffered in WPS play for the Philly Independence. Sauerbrunn was one of the most consistent defenders in WPS this season and the Ironwoman of the league, playing every minute of every match for the Washington Freedom. In fact, she is the only player to play every minute of all two seasons in the short history of the WPS. Sauerbrunn, a former standout for the USA's youth national teams (she was one of the USA's leaders at the 2004 FIFA U-19 Women's World Cup in Thailand) has two full national team caps, both earned at the 2008 Four Nations Tournament in China, which were the first games for the USA under Pia Sundhage. In fact, Sauerbrunn started Sundhage's first-ever game at the helm of the USA, a 4-0 win over Canada on Jan. 16, 2008.
