WNT players wait out the lightning in the players' lounge at KSU Stadium. Eventually, practiced was called
Today, we believe, was a first for the WNT. For the first time in WNT history a training was cancelled due to lightning. The sun was out when the squad left the team hotel, but by the time they hit the field there were some ominous dark clouds forming and after 30 minutes, lightning strikes hit, strikes that seemed not that close, but also not that far away. The team quickly cleared the field and headed inside the KSU Soccer Stadium to wait out the storm. After a few more lightning strikes it soon became clear that the team would have to wait about an hour to get back on the field, so U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage, sadly, pulled the plug on practice. The rain is supposed to be done for the week, so the team will hit the field tomorrow morning with its biggest roster of the camp so far: 23 players!
