O'Reilly celebrates her goal
The U.S. WNT picked up its second straight 2-0 victory over Japan last Wednesday night in front of a lively crowd at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The U.S. team put in a solid overall performance that included the second straight shutout for the U.S. defense and goalkeeper Hope Solo, who was making her second start since major shoulder surgery last September, but it was a magical night for U.S midfielder Heather O'Reilly, who had a goal and an assist while returning to the area where she played her college ball at UNC. O'Reilly scored her 29th career international goal in the same stadium and into the same goal where she got her first back in 2002, and was saluted by the crowd when she left the match in the 72nd minute for Lauren Cheney. Next up for the USA is a clash with Mexico on June 5 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. It will be the first U.S. Soccer match at the sparkling new arena and the final game for the USA before leaving for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany.
