MNT Jan 5, 2011
The first training session of the January camp is done and dusted, and all the nervous energy and anticipation will start to give way to better focus and sharper soccer. All of the 22 players currently in Carson took part in the nearly 90-minute long session which included a lengthy warm-up, technical exercises, simultaneous small-sided possession games and finally 6 v. 6 to big goals (no pure fitness - yet!). As Bob Bradley told the media following training, no one makes or misses out on a roster the first day. A few notes to keep you going:
- Six players took part in their first-ever session with the full national team: Eric Alexander, A.J. DeLaGarza, Sean Johnson, Zach Loyd, Ryan Miller and Anthony Wallace
- The players will spend the afternoon getting full physicals, with a double day scheduled for tomorrow.
- We mentioned this morning that three players from the 2007 January camp made the 2010 World Cup roster. If you add in the camps from 2008-10, that number jumps to a total of 10 players who went through the rigors in Carson and wound up in South Africa, just short of half the roster.
