WNT Feb 5, 2010
The second day of the USA's three-day end of camp small-sided tournament continued today with at least three different competitions during training (the WNT Blog is not 100% sure as the scoring system was not confirmed with coach Sundhage). But it was clear that at the end of another spirited practice, the Women were the big mover and shakers on the day, tying the Grandmas (who were the dominant team during 4v4s), as both moved teams one point ahead of the Puppies (who were in first place after Day1). The Youngsters are still bringing up the rear, but did manage to add a couple points to their tally. If you read yesterday's WNT Blog post, you recall that the U.S. roster has been divided into four teams for the small-sided tournament, based roughly on age with the Puppies, the Youngsters, the Women and the Grandmas ascending upwards. After a huge first day, the Puppies showed their youth while the Grandmas strength and experience ruled the day as they did not lose any of their six 4 v. 4 matches. Tomorrow is the final training of the 20-day camp and there is a lot on the line during the early morning practice (many players have flights in the afternoon...if they can get out with many feet of snow headed for the East Coast) as the 2010 WNT Jan-Feb. Training Camp Small-Sided Tournament Champion will be decided.
