We spied U.S. goalkeepers Jill Loyden and Nicole Barnhart opening up a book called "Meditative Coloring" so we decided to inquire as to what the heck was the deal with that. Seems the U.S. goalkeepers find some calmness and tranquility in the coloring and it's a great way to pass the down time here in Cancun during Women's World Cup qualifying.
It does make sense that the GKs would need some relief from the maelstrom of flying soccer balls that fill their daily lives.
"Some days," admitted Barnhart, "We need the coloring more than others."
Interesting Fact: Barnhart was a double-major at Stanford and one of them was studio art, so she knows her way around a coloring book (and she loves coloring with the kids of the Soccer Moms on road trips).
We asked Barnhart and Loyden if this past time was just limited to goalkeepers. They did admit that they let Amy Rodriguez color and have invited Rachel Buehler as well.
