WNT Jul 30, 2012
The U.S. WNT found some stiff competition in a scrappy and physical Colombian team in the second match of Group play at the 2012 Olympics, but the superior quality and athleticism of USA eventually wore down the South Americans and resulted in three great goals.
The second came from Abby Wambach, who notched her sixth career Olympic goal, passing legendary forwards Mia Hamm and Tiffeny Milbrett for most goals by a U.S. player in an Olympics Games.
The match was not without some controversy when Wambach was sucker-punched in an off-the-ball incident in the first half.
Today it was announced by FIFA that the player who punched Wambach as she was making a run up the field will be suspended for two matches.
The USA's first goal came from Megan Rapinoe - her first score in Olympic play -- and Carli Lloyd, who has now scored in her last three Olympic matches dating back to the 2008 gold medal match. Here are a few pics from the clash with Colombia.
