Humorous travel story for you. This afternoon, U.S. defender Stephanie Cox flew into L.A. from Seattle on the same flight as the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA who defeated the Seattle Storm in Game 3 of the first-round of the playoffs yesterday to earn a place in the Western Conference Finals. As the passengers milled around the baggage claim, Cox spied Sparks center and women's basketball legend Lisa Leslie quickly grab a 2008 U.S. Olympic Team bag off the carousel and head for the exit where her ride was waiting at the curb. Seems both Cox and Leslie had used their U.S. Olympic Team-issued travel bag for this trip. Cox was pretty sure Leslie had grabbed her bag, but was the mild-mannered Cox going to sprint through the airport yelling at Lisa Leslie, "Hey, you've got my bag!"? She was not. She figured if the 'ole switch-a-roo had been made, she would be able to track down the 6-foot-5 Leslie. And sure enough, when another U.S. Olympic Team bag came around, it was belonged to Leslie, not Cox. Cox approached some of the other Sparks and said something to the effect of, "Ummm...I think Lisa Leslie took my bag." Her teammates got the four-time Olympic gold medalist on the phone (Cox has just one gold medal) and fortunately she had stopped to get something to eat. She returned to the airport curb and the two Olympians -- one a foot taller than the other --exchanged bags. As they say on the hardwood, no harm, no foul.
