U.S. to Learn First-Round Foes for Trinidad & Tobago '01; FIFA Under-17 World Championship Draw this Week

CHICAGO (Monday, May 7, 2001) - The United States' Men's Under-17 National Team will learn their fate this Wednesday (May 9) at the FIFA Under-17 World Championship draw. The draw will be held at the Trinidad Hilton in Tobago at 7:30 p.m. ET. The United States is the only country to participate in all eight of the previous Under-17 (previously Under-16) FIFA World Championships. The USA is currently on a tear and is riding a nine-game international win streak that dates back to June 9, 2000, and a 3-1 win against Germany. Costa Rica finished atop the CONCACAF Group B Qualifying Tournament, and will join the USA and hosts Trinidad & Tobago as the CONCACAF representatives at the 2001 World Championship. Croatia topped England in European action to secure the third and final UEFA spot in Trinidad & Tobago '01.

  • CONCACAF (3): USA, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago (host)
  • CONMEBOL (3): Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay

  • UEFA (3): Spain, France, Croatia
