BRADENTON, Fla. (Feb. 22, 2006) - The U.S. Under-17 '90 Men's National Team got a late goal from Sheanon Williams to pull out a 1-1 draw against the much older Under-21 Trinidad & Tobago Men's National Team in Bradenton, Fla. The U.S. players were five years younger than the Trinidad players that were born in 1985.
After a scoreless first half, the U.S. fell behind when T&T was able to beat Chris Miller in the 70th minute. A U.S. defender's clearance of a low cross from the right side of the penalty box fell directly to a T&T player and he buried his shot from 12 yards out into the left side of the goal.
Williams found the equalizer with five minutes remaining, putting away a service from Matt Uy. Uy had the ball on the left flank and with a deft touch, flicked the ball over a defender allowing Williams to streak in and blast a shot past the T&T 'keeper. The finish was Williams' first-ever international goal with the U-17s.
A number of the Trinidad players were members of the recent Under-20 team.
