|Re:||Winter Showcase Referee Opportunities|
The U.S. Soccer Development Academy, U.S. Soccer’s new national team training program, consists of the top U-15/16 and U-17/18 teams from across the country. U.S. Soccer is using the Academy as a platform to develop and identify up-and-coming players, coaches and referees. The Development Academy is the first step in the Pro Identification track for referees. A number of referees were identified in last year’s events for further development.
The Academy season features four national events held around the country. This year’s first event will be the Academy Winter Showcase featuring all 148 Academy teams and 4 U-17 National teams. The event will be held December 5 – 8, 2008 in Lancaster, CA.
Several national assessors and referee inspectors will be in attendance, including Paul Tamberino, Alfred Kleinaitis, Herb Silva, Brian Hall, Dave McKee, Alan Brown and Dick Triche. Several MLS and Professional referees will also be working games during this event and will be available for mentoring opportunities.
Depending upon availability and scheduling, a limited number of formal assessments may be available for referees. Referees may request an assessment in the RSVP section below. In all instances, the game must also meet the “sufficient test or challenge” criteria for the match to be ratable. Decisions regarding formal assessments will not be made until everyone has arrived in Lancaster.
The U.S. Soccer Referee Department Staff will be conducting referee training sessions during the showcase event. The training sessions will review current topics for elite level referees.
A proposed schedule of events and general information is listed below. There will be a referee meeting the evening of December 4 consisting of a review match procedures, assignments and a training session by U.S. Soccer Referee Department staff.
