U.S. Under-17 Men's National Teams Complete 2003 Nike Friendlies

BRADENTON, Fla. (December 8, 2003) — The 2003 Nike Friendlies, a four-day event that featured 47 teams and more than 90 games, wrapped up today in Bradenton, Fla. with the U.S. Under-17 1987 Men’s National Team tying FC Delco U-18 and the U.S. U-17 1988s topping the Sereno Golden Eagles U-17 by a 2-1 mark.

The U.S. U-17 1987s fell behind in the 14th minute as Stephen King found the back of the net for FC Delco. The U.S. responded in the 33rd minute as midfielder Dax McCarty created space on the dribble with a run through the left side of the attack. He drew the goalkeeper out of the goal mouth before sliding the ball across to an unmarked Rodrigo Hidalgo who calmly slid the ball into the back of the net.

Earlier in the day, the U.S. U-17-1988s got a 10th minute goal off a drive from Michael Dalpra en route to a 2-1 victory over Sereno Golden Eagles. Quavas Kirk scored the winner as Jonathan Villanueva found him on a run and was able to send the ball through the center of the defense for a 2-0 lead. The U.S. allowed a goal in the 68th minute, but held on for their third victory in the four-day event.
