CHICAGO (November 3, 2005) – U.S. Soccer will host the fifth edition of the Nike Friendlies Coaching Symposium this winter, which will once again coincide with the 2005 Nike Friendlies taking place from December 1-4, 2005, at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The symposium includes nightly presentations on Dec. 1 and 2, as well as a match analysis of a U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team match on Dec. 3 at the IMG Academy.

The coaching symposium will feature interaction with several of U.S. Soccer’s National Team coaches. The symposium will also give participating coaches the opportunity to watch the Nike Friendlies, an annual competition that will include 65 teams across the Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 age groups in 2005.

The Coaching Symposium opens on Thursday, Dec. 1, with a presentation by U.S. Under-17 MNT Head Coach John Hackworth. U.S. MNT Goalkeeping Coach Phil Wheddon, will also present on the first night, addressing the recently created U.S. Soccer Goalkeeper License. Wheddon will be accompanied by U-17 MNT Assistant Coach Tim Mulqueen.

On Saturday afternoon, coaches will have the opportunity to analyze the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team game at the IMG Academy fields. John Hackworth will discuss the U-17 MNT game plan prior to the match, and U.S. National Staff Coaches Bob Jenkins, Juan Carlos Michia, Roberto Lopez and Ralph Perez will lead the match analysis during the game.

The evening of Dec. 2 will feature presentations from U.S. Under-18 MNT Head Coach and Director of Coaching Education & Youth Development, Bob Jenkins, and U.S. MNT Strength and Conditioning Coach Pierre Barrieu. Jenkins led the Under-18 MNT to its first ever Milk Cup Championship this summer in Northern Ireland and Barrieu has established the fitness protocol that has helped the U.S. over the last few years.

The nightly symposium sessions will take place at Bayshore High School and are expected to last two hours.
